Spotlight: Mike Grover

I don't know how Michael Grover comes up with what he does.  I am upset and bothered that I may never have the ability to make things as fun and wild as Mike Grover. A graduate from BYU (where I briefly attended), I had the pleasure of meeting Mike in Alaska at the mini-con and comics camp that Alaskan Robotics puts on yearly.

If I had to describe the art style used by Mr. Grover, I would have to use the word "zany". If you've ever had the pleasure of watching shows such as Adventure Time or The Regular Show, you might see hints of familiarity of that art style in Mike's comics. However, The use of movement and abstract use of panels and occasional animation (except in print form of course), It sets itself apart from other comics and animations as its own fresh take on fun.

Mike has several personal works and took part in the anthology "Served", which is about the experiences of LDS Missionaries, put to comic form. (I also made comics as a missionary, but they never asked me! That's probably good, my art sucked back then...). My personal favorite is Jake Spooky, a short comic about a ghost becoming a pizza man, despite suffering from anxiety fueled explosions. It's available in black and white online, but he also sells colored print copies at cons he goes to (I think, I got mine a few years ago). Jake Spooky is also getting his own follow-up story on instagram under @jakespooky.

Grover's own contact stuff can be found at www.mrgroverdesign.com or his behance page www.behance.net/mikegrover. Now go there.
