Spotlight: Ben Saint

I like Ben Saint comics.  You can find them HERE and you probably should.  They balance touching, macabre, relatable and also a little look into some strange psyches.  He has a few short story comics, but his two big ones in progress are The Vapors and The Champion.  I love them both and I can try to pinpoint why.

• We get the epitomes of weird anti-hero protagonists.  In the Vapors, a conceited guy with a penchant for overcoats and fedoras lives with a nerdy girl who avoids all other human contact.  That's who we follow around and try to root for?  I'm not sure what's happening, but it's definitely fascinating to read.  The Champion has equally varied "protagonists" and I'm excited to see where they go.
• I always mention the art in my comic highlights, and this is no exception.  When a comic chooses not to include color, it needs to have an almost signature look to it.  I feel pretty confident that I could pick out a piece of artwork done by Ben Saint due to his darkly cartoony style.  It feels a lot more white on black than the other way around and that creates the atmosphere I think he's looking for.
• Flow.  Good writing flow.  I've never looked up at the clock while reading this.  It's the online comic equivalent of a page turner.  Stop reading my and go start reading his stuff.
